PSALM 23
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me , your rod and your staff, they comfort me
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

The main idea behind this piece was to symbolically represent these words:

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.-Hebrews 4:12-13

His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace; and his voice was the sound of rushing waters.

“The Road Warrior” (Mad Max // Mel Gibson)

Mad Max is a favorite character of mine. The character is a kind of apocalyptic/mythological/folk figure and I always wanted to illustrate him. So, I decided to do this oil painting featuring Mad Max with his famous Ford Interceptor in the background , wielding his sawed off shotgun, and fearlessly facing the wasteland he is destined to wander.

Mel Gibson in “Road Warrior” is my favorite version of Max , so that’s the version I chose to portray here, with the colors and tone of “Fury Road” (for all the film nerds like myself out there).

I included process photos from the initial pencil drawing , to the acrylic under painting, and finally to the oil painting.

I just managed to finish this painting in time to finish the year. This piece focuses on the appearance of angels to the shepherds at the birth of Jesus. I had fun completing this painting during this season, as we continue to celebrate the birth of the Savior while entering into a new year.

May this piece be a reminder of the great Joy that was found that day!

This was inspired by the ‘Flammarion Engraving’, an old artwork created by an unknown artist. I wanted to create a scene that felt modern, medieval, and otherworldly at the same time.

The main focal point is a man reaching out to the other side, reaching for a King to help him escape a darkened world, thus the title. It is my attempt to illustrate the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge in one composition.

I wanted the scene to be like an old medieval tapestry, playing with symbols, perspective, and color to create an engaging narrative.
